A bit about me.
I'm Matt. I started Uncle Matt because sometimes people do not necessarily need a textbook answer. They need somebody outside the situation to look at what is happening and give them an independent point of view.
I am not here to pretend I know everything, and I am certainly not here to tell people how they must live their lives. What I can do is listen to what someone has written, look at the situation as fairly as I can and say what I think.
Good advice should help you think, not simply tell you what to do.
Some problems have an obvious answer. Others are complicated, uncomfortable or have no perfect solution at all. Those are often the situations where another perspective can be most useful.
Letters published on Uncle Matt are not intended to embarrass anybody. Real names do not need to be used, and identifying details can be removed where necessary.
No judgement. No lectures. No pretending life is simple.

There are usually two sides to a problem, and sometimes considerably more than two. Context matters.
Say what I actually think
The aim is thoughtful advice, not vague reassurance or simply telling somebody what they want to hear.

Advice can offer another perspective. The final decision about your own life should still belong to you.
